Birds are created free. They are meant to fly in the sky and live freely. We should not torture them and make them our prisoners using cages. But if you wanna preserve some species then you have to create natural habitats for them like eco-parks with favorable ecosystems.
Animals are not intelligent like humans. So, they are our responsibility. But if they enter your room or house then you should take preventive measures. But if you fail to do so then you can use curative measures (like poisons for rats).
